After returning home from work and looking at the various results here I decided to start going through some of the less time consuming walk-throughs.  First focusing on the media. That might be related to having to uninstall 5-7 things like Bonjour or "Apple Software Support" or something else that similarly is useless but gets installed anyway. I don't have a floppy drive but it was enabled in my bios.   I disabled this in the bios and now my install flys. Ran system restore, everything looks ok in device...

My problem was the make of disc that I used!
