Paul Rotenberg I read half way down the comments and gave up - after I had used this method to kick start the updates on a clean install of 7x64. I guess many non-technically oriented people happily use their W7 and wonder not why no updates. If M$ succeed, they will likely start imposing annual subscriptions for Win 10 Home n Pro also.

I am happy to say that your solution was clear, simple and worked perfectly. Be aware the big November 2016 download can do it again though.
