I notice that this problem happening from certain date. I didn't realise it, but these numbers were in fact hyperlinked in the document from which I'd copied them. I am also running Trend Micro. i've just been crying for at least 10 minutes! Can go into my web mail and delete all the spam crap and then go back to Outlook and it will download all the email. Enter pop.verizon.net in the Incoming mail server field. All with the same results. FOR THIS TO WORK! Your SMTP should not be the same as your POP setting.
This was working fine up until about the end of 2004 (Oct-Nov?)Funny that it will pull into my webmail fine, but not Outlook. I really don’t want to do this.
