I have now, however, resolved my problem: I had to repair my HD from the Recovery partition. Here is how to solve it. 1. To be a bit more precise I am running Yosemite Beta 2 on a MacBook Pro with 256 GB SDD. You can do this by going to START > RUN > type: "MSCONFIG" . My storage has been steadily reducing itself every day - several days ago I was at 180 GB free and today I'm at 95 GB free. Looks like you got the same thing done in Pathfinder (nice trick!). You may want to look at getting a new HD and copying your files to the new HD quick, before the HD dies completely.
